Riding across the Tibetan Plateau - , Tibet
Thanks Tibet Roof of the World for this favorite place.
A motorbike ride on the roof of the world is not simply a holiday or a getaway tour – it is an incredible adventure as we traverse the world’s highest roads and remote valleys. It is a spectacular tour to Tibet and Nepal, riding across the magnificent Himalayan Plateau.
The tour begins in the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, where you will spend 2~4 days acclimatizing to altitude. You will visit the former home of the Dalai Lama, the Potala Palace, which dominates the Lhasa skyline, as well as Norbulinka Park, the summer residence from where he fled to India in 1959. Then, the start of your great ride across the Himalayan Plateau! Visiting the Himalaya is an amazing experience, but touring the region on a motorcycle adds an extra dimension. From Lhasa you ride to the ancient Tibetan town of Gyangtse, then Shigatse and Tingri, before heading to Everest Base Camp. Perhaps the most exhilarating ride of all is from the Tibetan town of Nyalam to the border town of Zhangmu, where you descend 1,300 meters, over a distance of 35 kms, in two hours’ riding!
