The Drigung Valley; about 150kms and 2hrs drive out of Lhasa, is one my favorite places in Tibet.  Drigung is a beautiful alpine valley with small quaint villages, farmland and grasslands. Overlooking the valley is the majestic Drigung Til Monastery – home to one of the most famous sky burial sites in Tibet and home of the famous Drigung Kagyu Buddhist sect.  Up a side valley to the north is Tidrum Nunnery and hotsprings, a peaceful and powerful place where visitors can hike around the holy mountain explore the nunnery or experience the hotsprings.  In the summer months the rains fill the Drigung River and 2 days of fun whitewater rafting or kayaking can be had.  In the fall nomads come down from the summer pastures to prepare for the winter, filling the valley floor with herds of yaks. I return year after year to trek , horse ride, whitewater raft, or just soak in the hotsprings.
