Attraction Category:

A hard choice, as there as so many lakes in Tibet! But a real gem is Yilung Latsho, a holy lake in the Kham region of East Tibet. Surrounded by forests with the glaciated summits of the Trola Range rising straight up from the lake, you would think you were in Switzerland except for the herds of yak grazing in the meadows beside the lake. It’s a long 3 day journey by vehicle to reach Yilung Latsho from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province in western China, and just over the Trola Range from the lake is the fascinating town of Dege, where the Parkhang is located, the famous 500-year old library of Tibetan religious texts carved onto wooden tablets.
