On 22 and 23 December 2012chris-jones-tibetecotravel.com-IMG_0247, an ecotourism seminar for Tibetan schoolteachers and monastic teachers was arranged in Chengdu. In lectures, discussions and workshops, tourism experts, religious leaders, NGO representatives and environmentalists stressed the importance of environmental and cultural preservation on the Tibetan Plateau.
Modern lifestyles, changed livelihoods, consumerism and junk food are having a negative impact on communities and the natural surroundings was the shared message during the seminar, and only a drastic change in mind set and practical action can reverse these negative developments. Ecotourism initiatives, community action and monastic teachings can help to make this change happen.
