Pabongkha Temple - Lhasa, Tibet

Pabongkha Temple

Thanks Easy Tibet Tours for this favorite place.

Pabongkha is located on the foot of the mountains in the Northern suburb of Lhasa city. Although Pabongkha is not well known to tourists, it plays important role that cannot be neglected in the cultural development in Tibetan history, where scholar Thomi Sambota invented the Tibetan language based on Sanskrit after he came back from India and the Tibetan king Songtsen Ganpo once meditated here, and it was also the local government office in seven century.

There are not enough words to describe how wonderful Pabongkha is for me. I often went to visit the temple, when I was a little boy with my grandma. It  would take hours for us to climb the mountain and visit the temple during those days, since we had no cars or buses available to reach a temple. My grandma knew the monks in the temple and we would often have lunch in their small kitchen with them. I still remember how delicious of monks veggie food was and how I enjoyed it with my grandma. I liked to trek with my grandma around the mountain and enjoy the breeze of wind, the blue sky, the sunshine, and the smell of wild flowers during the summer time and see the full picture of Lhasa city from the mountainside.

Grandma is not with me anymore. However, I still like to go there alone spend hours and read pages of a book, or take a picnic with my friends or do a small trek with my clients in the mountain. Tourists often skip Pabongkha during their stay in Lhasa. However, I would recommend them to visit Pabongkha if they’d like to experience the different beauty of this small temple with a rich history behind of it. If travelers are interested in trekking or hiking they really should come to here and explore.
